For Pregnant Mothers, Lazy To Brush Your Teeth May Trigger Premature Births

Oral hygiene is closely linked to a person's overall health. In pregnant women, teeth and mouth which not kept clean at risk of trigger premature birth and babies born with low birth weight.

According to a recent study, periodontal disease greatly affects pregnancy. This disease is a chronic condition, which can be triggered by bacterial infection and inflammation, and can affect the gums or jaw bone structure.

If left untreated, periodontal disease often causes inflammation of the gums and tooth permanently. Even more broadly, the impact can increase the risk of diabetes and heart and blood vessel disease.

In pregnant women, periodontal disease proven to increase the risk of preterm birth or having a low birth weight. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), babies born with low birth weight are also susceptible to various health problems while growing up.

"Other symptoms of periodontal disease are bleeding easily when brushing your teeth, gums separate from the teeth, unpleasant mouth odor, and broken teeth. These signs, especially during pregnancy, should not be ignored and should get treatment from professional dental health," said a dental expert, Dr. Nancy L Newhouse, DDS, MS.
